Walter Potter, a 19th-century taxidermist, created a wonderfully bizarre series of dioramas of stuffed animals engaging in everyday activities: guinea pigs at a cricket match, cats at a wedding, toads playing on see-saws in the park, squirrels playing poker, rabbits at school. All were displayed at “Mr. Potter’s Museum of Curiosities” in Sussex, England, along with his gallery of two-headed animals, tusked rats, and other mostrous creatures.
