Underwater Blast

|

Footage of an underwater explosion (nuclear?) test by the US military. (!)

Update: well, not really an update, but an add-on.
.
Military footage of explosions and such is like heroin for me: I know it's bad, but I can't get enough of it... If you share my addiction - to the footage, not the heroin, heroin is very nasty - have a look at these other videos of pretty deadly blasts. If all this is a bit overwhelming for you, fear not, for you can always find solace in Him...
.
... or him.

The End Of The World Is Nigh

|
The 12th of September to be precise.

As the deadline for my dissertation is the 15th of September I have decided not to do any further work, as it would ammount to no more that an excericise in futility.

Hear, hear.

Needless to say, I will be acquiring a copy of this informative tome, so I can prepare for the worst in advance...

Flight Visualisations

|
shared by chris rae

Here are a couple of flight visualisations for you today...

The first shows the flight paths of a delivery company's flights trying to get into the Memphis hub as a thunderstorm passes through the area. They look like a swarm of bees trying to avoid a plume of smoke.

The second, on a much larger scale, shows the flight paths of all airplanes in the U.S. in one day. here is an overview (quicktime). For the individual videos click here.

The Museum of Matches

|

Match World is a virtual museum devoted to the match. The museum houses an awesome online collection of matchbox labels from around the world - mainly Japanese though - from the late 1800s to the 1930s. The hundreds of labels in the virtual galleries are only a fraction of the 30,000 or so in the museum’s Rankei Library.

Over at the nonist jaime morrison is showcasing a series of beautiful library images from the book libraries by Candida Höfer. This inspired me to start my own library, only with humans instead of books, so they can tell me their stories whilst I close my eyes before sleep. It's a bit empty now, but it will get fuller with time...

Fear Their Anemones

Over at the Museum of Dust, they are thinking about deploying an army of anemones as security personnel aswell as night-time decorative features... The logic is undeniable.
